Community Guidelines
Cinetrā Community Guidelines
Cinetra is a space for people who care about films, filmmakers, festivals and the wider culture of cinema. Our community features allow users to share their views, discuss films and engage with Cinetra’s editorial coverage.
You can review film titles and comment on Cinetra articles, including news stories, festival updates, interviews and other editorial coverage.
We want these conversations to be informed, respectful and useful to other members of the community. These guidelines explain what we expect from everyone who participates.
Be respectful
Disagreement is welcome. Personal attacks are not.
Do not use comments or reviews to harass, threaten, intimidate, insult or demean other people. Criticism should address a film, performance, idea, argument or piece of reporting rather than attacking the person expressing it.
Keep discussions about cinema
Comments should contribute meaningfully to the article or the subject being discussed. Avoid repetitive, irrelevant or disruptive comments, including attempts to derail a discussion.
Reviews should reflect your experience
Reviews are intended for genuine responses to films. Write about your experience of the film and explain your views where useful.
Do not submit reviews that are deliberately misleading, fabricated or intended to manipulate a film's rating or reputation.
Do not post multiple reviews of the same title simply to influence its rating.
No harassment, threats or hate speech
Content that targets people or groups with threats, harassment, hateful abuse or dehumanising language is not permitted.
This includes attacks based on characteristics such as race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or other protected characteristics.
No personal information
Do not publish someone else's private or sensitive information without their consent.
This includes private contact details, home addresses, financial information, passwords and other information that could put someone at risk.
No impersonation or deceptive activity
Do not impersonate another person, filmmaker, critic, publication, organisation or Cinetra representative.
Do not use misleading identities or coordinated activity to manipulate reviews, ratings or discussions.
No spam or promotion
Do not use comments or reviews primarily to advertise products, services, websites, events or unrelated content.
Repeated promotional posts, spam, automated content and attempts to drive traffic away from Cinetra may be removed.
Respect copyright
Only post material that you have the right to share. Do not reproduce substantial portions of articles, reviews, scripts, interviews, books or other copyrighted material without permission.
Spoilers
When discussing significant plot developments, endings or other major surprises, clearly identify spoilers and avoid revealing them unnecessarily.
Reviews and comments are moderated
Community contributions are subject to moderation.
Cinetra may remove, restrict or otherwise moderate content that violates these guidelines. We may also take action against accounts that repeatedly violate the guidelines, including restricting or removing their ability to participate in community features.
Moderation decisions may take into account the context, severity and frequency of a violation.
Not every disagreement, negative opinion or critical review will be removed. Our goal is not to ensure that everyone agrees. The purpose of moderation is to maintain a community that is respectful, relevant and useful.
Report a problem
If you see a review or comment that you believe violates these guidelines, please report it to Cinetra through the available reporting tools.
When reporting content, provide enough information for us to understand the concern. We may review reported content and take appropriate action.
These guidelines may change
We may update these guidelines as Cinetra's community features develop and as new forms of misuse or abuse emerge. The latest version published on Cinetra will apply to community participation.
By using Cinetra's community features, you agree to follow these guidelines.
