Indian filmmaker Ridham Janve's Hunter’s Moon has won the Best Screenplay award in the Asian New Talent section of the Golden Goblet Awards at the 28th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF), marking a significant international recognition for the India-Germany co-production.
The award was announced at the festival’s Golden Goblet Awards ceremony in Shanghai on June 20. Hunter’s Moon had its world premiere in the Asian New Talent competition, a section dedicated to first and second features by emerging Asian filmmakers.
The film was one of 12 titles selected for this year’s Asian New Talent lineup, which featured works from across Asia including China, Thailand, Bangladesh, Jordan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The competition was judged by a jury headed by Singaporean filmmaker Anthony Chen, with members including Indonesian director Kamila Andini, Chinese filmmaker Liu Jiayin, Kazakh director Farkhat Sharipov and Taiwanese actor Wen Qi.
The screenplay prize places Hunter’s Moon among a growing list of Indian films recognised by the Shanghai festival’s talent-focused section, which has long served as a platform for emerging Asian filmmakers. Established in 2004, the Asian New Talent competition presents awards for Best Film, Director, Actor, Actress, Screenplay and Cinematography.
The Shanghai International Film Festival is one of Asia’s most prominent film events and is among the few FIAPF-accredited competitive film festivals worldwide. This year’s edition received a record 4,100 submissions from 125 countries and regions.
For Janve, whose previous work includes the acclaimed independent feature The Gold-Laden Sheep & The Sacred Mountain, the award marks a major milestone and is likely to further boost the international profile of Hunter’s Moon as it begins its festival journey.
