Actors Preity Zinta, Pankaj Tripathi, Suniel Shetty, Pallavi Joshi, Prosenjit Chatterjee and Roopali Ganguly are among 18 members appointed to the reconstituted Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced the new board on September 16, with the appointments taking effect immediately. The members will serve for three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The board also includes actors Manoj Joshi and Nishigandha Wad; filmmakers Priyadarshan, Abhishek Jain and Neela Madhab Panda; musician Ricky Kej; singer Hansraj Hans; producer Supriya Yarlagadda; film critic Vinod Anupam; poet and writer Yatindra Mishra; and theatre personality Waman Kendre.
The reconstitution was notified under Section 3(1) of the Cinematograph Act, 1952, read with Rule 3 of the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, 2024. The CBFC is the statutory body responsible for certifying films for public exhibition in India.
The announcement lists the 18 members but does not specify any change to the board's statutory role. The reconstituted panel follows the government's appointment of Shashi Shekhar Vempati as CBFC chairperson earlier this year.
