Bhutanese filmmaker Pawo Choyning Dorji’s A Song for the Snow Lion will have its world premiere at the 53rd Telluride Film Festival, running Sept. 4-7 in Colorado.
The Bhutan-U.S. short is part of The Show, Telluride’s main program, which includes the festival’s selection of short films.
Directed by Dorji, A Song for the Snow Lion explores an ancient Himalayan story about snow lions, mythical guardians associated with the mountains, while connecting the legend to the retreat of Himalayan glaciers.
The film features cellist Yo-Yo Ma and Bhutanese singer Kelden Lhamo Gurung.
The world premiere marks the latest festival appearance for Dorji, whose Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom became the first Bhutanese film nominated for the Academy Award for international feature film. His subsequent feature, The Monk and the Gun, was also selected as Bhutan’s entry for the category.
